Georgia Awards: In-State Gems

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – When the Outdoor Advertising Association of Georgia (OAAG) looked to honor the best creative work recently, it decided to go All-State.

LogoThe OAAG’s creative contest for 2013-2014 came with one important rule: the work needed to be for a Georgia-based business. Entries went before a judging panel that included representatives from major outdoor advertising companies and Stephen Freitas of the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA).

Winners received their rewards (including cash) at the OAAG’s regional meeting here on Oct. 22 at the Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa.

Making the contest an all-Georgia affair gave entries a regional feel, and organizers might’ve thought the field would be more difficult to enter. As it turns out, the hard part came with the judging.

Casteel, a newcomer to out-of-home advertising, wanted a humorous and huge approach to promote the addition of plumbing services. Roberts worked with Atomic Props to mount a 1,500 lbs toilet-paper holder (with straps of paper designed to flap in the wind) on a printed tile wall, with “& Plumbing” in a simulated handwritten font to highlight the new added service. Two Atlanta-area interstate billboards went up with the same creative, with a 14-board rotary campaign with two additional designs for support.

Second Place

“Go Pink, Create Awareness, Courage = Conquer”
